6 Best Places to have an Existential Crisis

January 11, 2016

We all question the purpose of our existence at one time or another. If “Why am I here” turns into “My life is utterly meaningless,” then it might be a good time to take a break, get out of town, and go “find” yourself.  Here are the 6 best places to do that.

Shikoku, Japan

This Japanese island is the birthplace of the revered Buddhist monk and teacher Kobo-Daishi. Visitors can take a pilgrimage on a 750-mile trek that connects 88 Buddhist temples. Each leg of the journey represents a separate path to Nirvana.

Camino de Santiago, Spain

The Camino de Santiago has been a Christian pilgrimage for a thousand years. There are many roads that one can walk that all lead to one place- Santiago de Compostela- traditionally understood to be the burial site of Jesus’ disciple St. James. Many people claim to discover their faith while walking this pilgrimage.

Rishikesh, India

Located at the base of the Himalayas, this city is considered the yoga capital of the world. It is regarded by Hindus as one of the holiest places in India, and saints and sages have visited it in search of higher knowledge for thousands of years.

Abadiania, Brazil

Abadiania is home to the Casa de Inacio, which is a spiritual healing center. The renowned John of God does his work there, and has been visited by the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Wayne Dyer, and Gabrielle Bernstein. Thousands of people claim to have had healings in the spiritual center, as well as the sacred waterfall.

The Way Inn Lodge, Huaraz, Peru

Ayahuasca, the Amazonian psychedelic, has been touted as THE way to have a spiritual revelation about the meaning of your life. Unfortunately, if it’s prepared improperly, not only could you have a bad trip, but you could die from it. If you want to try it, the best thing to do is go to a retreat at The Way Inn in Peru. It’s clean, safe, and the shamans who run the retreats take their jobs seriously.

Sedona, Arizona

Home to a number of vortexes that radiate the Earths power, Sedona is considered a sacred place to many in the metaphysical community. It has dozens of New Age shops, healing centers, retreats, and resort spas. It also offers incredible views and some pretty amazing hiking.
